Something Cheerful

I promised I'd be back with some more cheerful projects and I think this one definitely fits the bill. I made this card for my nephew's first birthday ( the giant #1 might be a bit of a giveaway on that). I wanted to make a card that my car loving nephew would enjoy as much as his card making mama, and I think I succeeded this time! I really need to take notes on cards I make because I know that the layout was based on a sketch I saw somewhere and I think the colours might have been off of a card in our demo magazine but, beyond that I have no idea!

I love this stamp set from the occasions mini stamp set the little animals are perfect for a fun and quirky card. I was also pleased to see that they were the right size to use with the truck from the loads of love stamp set. Almost everything here was paper pieced. I played a lot with textures so, on this card you will find embossed cs, crimped cs, glossy heat embossed cs (the #1) and both fine and chunky red glitter. Since it's not easy to tell in the pic, I should mention that I actually stamped the greeting win Versamark ink then glittered it with the help of our heat and stick powder (fab. stuff!) {sigh} I can't believe the corduroy buttons are all retiring, aren't they fun? If you're in love with them like I am, better order them up fast, they're gone after June 30!

The Last of the Paper Flower- For Now!

Well this is the last paper flower card I have in my photo stash. Unfortunately this card was not fun to make. A family friend lost their 22 year old daughter to heart failure this spring, and I wanted to make a card that reflected her personality rather than focusing on the grief side of things. This girl was a lovely, ever cheerful and friendly person with a natural flair and love of fashion. She will be greatly missed. I find I am not the best with words, at least not when it comes to situations like these and so I really appreciate the nearly therapeutic effect of crafting a card like this for people you care about. I hope this card will bring a little sunshine into this family's dark days.

The card itself was again inspired by the colours in the Razzleberry Lemonade DSP fut this time I focused on the deeper hues. I loaded on the flowers and the distressing for this card. I wanted to go with the vintage shabby look but it also had to have some bling to it so I used some rhinestone brads and added some Encore Gold ink (Retiring!!!) directly to the paper along the outer edges of the card. I quite liked the effect. The last thing worth mentioning about the card is the greeting. I had already loaded so much stuff onto the card and did not want to overwhelm it with the greeting and so I actually stamped it on vellum. You can't see it very well in the pic but, because of the transparency of the vellum, the greeting isn't as 'in your face' despite it's size.

I know this is not the most pleasant type of project to share but, we all have moments when we are called on to make sympathy cards and I think it's important to share them too. To make up for it though, I promise my next few cards will be super cheerful, and maybe even a little silly!

More Paper Flowers

Bet you thought, I was done with the paper flowers, eh? Nope. In fact, I have at least one more project after this one up my sleeve!!
This was another fun and relatively simple card. I always find it so hard to pin point the source of my inspiration with cards like this. I love browsing paper crafting blogs and it seems like sometimes the projects I make wind up being the synthesis of things that inspired me on them over days or weeks or even longer. Two blogs that definitely influenced me for this one though are Paper Pleasing Ideas and My Favorite Things (hmmm, I almost typed My Favorite Thongs, I'm sure that would not be a blog I'd want to be sending you to!!)

This card, much like the Crushed Curry card I shared earlier this week, was made for a friend who just had a long awaited baby girl. This time after 3 boys. (I have only one-I just can't imagine!) So once again this card was made to be a celebration of all things girly. The flower was made in felted Pink Pirouette (a returning in color) cardstock so it has a very pleasing flannel-like texture to it.
The felt accent pieces were from the Sweet Pea Stitched Felt elements that were available in the last mini catalogue. I earned them free with my MDS certification in the fall {Yay SU!} I actually do have to admit though, I am a bit of a hoarder when it comes to embellishment and despite really liking these elements this is the first project I dared break into them for! Do you do the same? I still have piles of DSP waiting for just the right project, and I can't bear to cut into them, silly really, that IS why I bought it!

Flashy Flowers

I figured since I'm on a bit of a role with the paper flower thing I might as well keep going. The card I'm sharing today has a pretty wild colour combo but, I really like how it turned out. I wanted to give a thank you gift to a family friend (in her 80's but, you'd never guess!) who really went out of her way to help me this year while I was busy with the baby. The card was inspired by a really cheerful but, admittedly wild gift bag that I was using. I wish I had thought of taking a pic of the bag (hindsight eh?) so you could see where the idea came from. Basically the bag was checkered in kiwi and white then covered in multicolored gebera like daisies. I think it also had black polka dots on it somehow but, for the moment I can't imagine how!

Anyway, this turned out to be a really quick card thanks to Mr. Big Shot (looooooove him!-shhh, don't tell Will!). I used the daisies #2 die with Orchid Opulescence and Pixie Pink cardstock (I think, I never use those colours) . This is a fabulous die as you can easily produce very impressive flowers and their appearance can be totally transformed simply by your choice of papers and the number of layers you use. I think I've posted a flower I made with this die using blues and the effect is completely different!
While I'm on the topic of things I love, have you gotten the vibe recently that I LOVE the corduroy buttons? Especially these Kiwi Kiss one- and their available in the clearance rack really cheap! Unfortunately it looks like they all hit the Last Chance Accessories list so it looks like I'll have to stock up before they're all gone! My favourite colour is actually the Kraft (soon to be Crumb Cake) because they are pale enough to colour with markers!

Fast and fabulous Flower

As I mentioned yesterday I have gotten totally hooked on making paper flowers. Here is a card featuring another kind of flower I discovered (Ack I can't find the tutorial I watched on it, if anyone knows where to find it, please let me know!) I made this card for my DSIL who is also an avid papercrafter. This flower is a lot more intricate than the one I shared yesterday. The reason I refer to it as a fast flower is that, when I offered my paper flower making class I came up with a 3d rose that I honestly don't think looked as sharp as this one and yet took AGES to make. In fact I think most of my stampers, although they loved the finished product, said they would likely never make one again. It was far too finicky and time consuming. On the contrary, this flower, which is made using our scallop circle punch, looks awesome and is simple enough to do on a regular basis. Here's a close up of the flower, I used the tombo multi adhesive to make the flower- it's awesome stuff!

This card actually features a few of my recent addictions: kraft cardstock (soon to be called Crumb Cake and will have a matching ink!!!!), the Scallop trim edge punch and the polkadots embossing folder. The folder is one of the best purchases I have ever made, I absolutely love the effect it gives and I find myself reaching for it all the time. Here is the rest if the card, I just love the look of Old olive and plum or elegant eggplant together, it gives projects a really rich feel.

Here's another card I made a while back. This was baby card I made for a cousin who finally had a little girl after 2 boys. I wanted to make something really fun and girly and to my surprise i found myself reaching for Crushed Curry to do it! I'm still surprised how great this colour can be in the right situations because I actually hated it when it first came out. It was actually the stunning Razzleberry Lemonade Designer Series Paper that helped me change my mind, I've used some of that paper on this project. This Paper lends itself really well to the whole shabby chic look. If Crushed Curry (or Bermuda Bay or Dusty Durango) has finally caught your fancy, don't forget that it is only available until the end of this month!!

I'm also really loving all of the paper flowers/medallions that have been showing up in papercrafting. A few years ago when I did a class on paper flowers, I had to search like crazy for ideas and then had to come up with most of them on my own. Now, though it seems like there are hundreds of varieties out there and every other card features one. Here's a close up of the posy flower I made for this card.

It's super easy to make and with the right paper choices really fabulous. I'm not sure who to credit with this kind of flower, I think it has been around for a long time but, I first took notice of it on Dawn McVey's blog. Basically all you do is roughly tear out 3 circles in complementary papers, and then after crumpling and distressing each one to your satisfaction you stack them and stick a brad or button on. Fun!! I've gotten quite hooked on the paper flowers, as you will see over the next few days. Hope you enjoyed.

Trendy Scene

I figured since we're snowed in today (yes I am writing this at the very end of May!) I would take a few moments to share some things I've created since I last posted a project. I've still been stamping but have not been able to find the time to share. Today I'm choosing to create a whole bunch of smaller posts (that will be published over the next few days) that way I can share more projects in less time. I won't be sharing any card recipes but, if you would like to know about any of the projects I will be posting feel free to leave comments and I will do my best to answer.

As usual all supplies used are Stampin' Up! and most can be found in our current catalogue which you can see on my Stampin' site here.

This was a super fun card to make. I took inspiration from a creation someone shared in our monthly Stampin' Success magazine (an awesome perk to becoming a demonstrator!). I love the look of the different patterned papers on the hills. One thing you can't see well in the photo but, that I think really adds a lot to the card in real life is the pattern in the sky. I used one of the 'tree top' stamps from the Trendy Trees set that looks like a polka dot spiral and stamped it in white craft ink all over the bashful blue layer. I really love playing with this set!

Stampin' Up!'s New Colour Renovation!!!

Hi Stampers,
I have some very exciting news for you! As you know Stampin' Up! is all about colours, and colour trends are constantly changing. Over the last few years, the In Color family have been used to keep the Stampin' Up! pallette on trend but, after lots of research they've decided that it was time for a larger change; a Color Renovation! Just like any renovation project it can be daunting and even scary at first but the end results are always worth the troubles! So what does this mean?

Some happy hellos and fond farewells...

There will now be 4 Color Collections: -Brights, Regals, Subtles and Neutrals

Each collection will include 10 colours (40 in all) These palettes are made up of 25 carried-over colours, 10 returning In Colors (Including most of my faves!!) and 5 gorgeous brand new colors. (Early Expresso looks like the brown of my dreams!)(See link on right side for full list).

Farewell...
So what's happening to the other 30 colours that will not be carried over? They are going to be retired {gulp!}. Now, while there are a few that I am glad to see go, there are also a few that really choke me up, and I'm sure you will feel the same way.(See link on right side for full list).

Stampin' Up! is promising to make all these colors available through the end of May then after that it will only be as supplies last so, I recommend ordering ASAP! I know that I will have to stock up on a few of my faves, somehow I can`t imagine a world without close to cocoa, mellow moss, pale plum or summer sun! Are your 'can't live without em' colours on the hit list?

Remember this will effect all inks, refills, cardstock, designer series papers, markers, pastels, watercolour crayons and of course accessories in the retiring colours.

{Edited to add: I just recieved my free samples of the new colours from Stampin' Up! and I love them even more in real life!! That makes saying good bye a little easier!}

In Colors...
They will also be continuing with the In-Color program but, in a slightly different (and in my opinion, much better) way. From now on, every year Stampin' Up! will introduce 5 new In-colors to reflect the color new color trends but, they will stick around for two whole years-yay! What this means, is after this year you will actually have access to 10 additional In-colors at any given time. I don't know about you but, this thrilled me, it always takes me a while to warm up to the new colours, then by the time I'm totaly in love with them- Bye bye! {sigh} I can't wait to see the new 2010 In colors!!

Easing Into the New Colour Collections:
While change is always exciting, as a demonstrator I was afraid it would become terribly expensive to stay current....would I have to purchase a new set of markers or watercolour crayons, on top of the new ink pads and papers?... Thank goodness Stampin' Up! was sensitive to this and so, for the duration of the 2010 catalogue they will be offering update kits that will only include the new colours as well as inserts for your marker boxes and pastels as well as new tins for the watercolour crayons.

Wow Time Flies!

I knew it had been a little while since I last posted but, a month??? What on earth happened? I know you can't possibly know but the odd things is that I really don't either. They say that as you get older time passes faster and faster I really hope it slows down a little though because at this pace I'll blink and my kids will be grown!

I think I can guess one culprit to this last month going by so fast, if you take a quick look around at my blog you might also guess...My Digital Studio. Love it! Love it! Love it!! I can get awesome scrapbook pages done without turning my house upside down and it makes great posters/banners/backgrounds....really with a little tinkering the sky is the limit.

As for the new blog look what do you think? Both the background and the header were done with MDS. My mom is a huge fan of the artist Mary Engelbreit and loaned me a gorgeous book about her, I couldn't resist trying to reproduce her aesthetic on the blog. It's so cheerful and vibrant!

While I am going on about what you can do in MDS I might as well share a few of my recent scrapbook pages with you. Make sure to click on the images to see them larger, there are a lot of little details!

These first 2 pages were made to be name frames for my kid's rooms, I can't wait to get them printed! It was so much fun to use the included Simply Scrappin' Kits to make pages that reflected so well their personalities!

For this page I used a photo layout that is included in the program, it was super quick to do.
These last 2 pages are for the baby book I am working on for my son. Thanks to MDS it finally seems like an achievable project! {hint= black and white always looks classy and is a great way to deal with tacky or unpleasantly coloured scenes, like here at a hospital}

And finally, this is the front of the card I created and had printed to get My Digital Studio Certified. This card was almost effortless as, I took a premade one from the Hoppy memories kit and tweaked it to fit Kaleb's photo and a greeting. I am really happy I had a few of these printed, because it seemed kind of costly to have them professionally printed, but -WOW- they look great and are full colour inside and out! Hopefully tomorrow I can show you a photo of the printed cards as well as a peak at what I did inside!

Another Monster Post!

Hmm... I wonder if one day I can get it together enough to be able to do small daily posts instead of sporadic monster posts... Well, not today! Here's your weekly-ish monster post:

-Please forgive the photo quality,it's all I can do to snap a quick pic of my projects as they head out the door these days!

Today's first project was made for a dear little friend of mine who turned 1 in August. I really enjoyed making this card, the stamp set used is called...(searching for my catty because I ordered the French set called "petit amours") Love Bug. It's a level one hostess set too, so I earned it free {yay!}. This is a pretty simple project, the # 1 is made with our chunky glitter and sticky letters (a perfect pairing!) The polka dot DSP was made using punched circles and the only other thing you might not be able to pick out in the photo is that I covered the bugs in crystal effects so they almost look like little plastic toys.

The following project is the gift that accompanied my buggy card. As you can tell it's another take on a framed scrap book page (of course this one won't fit in any album I know).

This was a wonderful project to showcase the beautiful Kaleidoscope DSP that came out in our most recent catalogue. It is so beautiful that it really stands alone and did not need much added to it. In fact I have barely broken into this paper pack because I can't bare cutting the sheets!

Next is a fun birthday card using Beary Best Friends from the new Build-A-Bear line. While this collection is generally targeted at kids, this card was made for a 31st b-day of a friend who is still young at heart. I decided to do something really cutesy/girly to celebrate not only her Bday but also the fact that she is soon going to have a little girl after 3 boys!

There is lots of detail on this card, paper piecing, glammed glitter shoes and crystal effects of course on the balloon. I absolutely love my SU! Top Note die, I think it is my single best Big Shot die purchase, hands down. I love how it makes a perfect canvas to highlight any stamped image.

My next 2 cards feature the Lots of Bots stamp set. This is a really fun set to work with and excellent if your circle of friends includes SciFi nuts or simply quirky fun folk. Please forgive the photo quality of the first card, believe me it's much better in real life!

I never would have thought that of all the current In Colors I would gravitate towards Mellon Mambo, I'm not a pink person I swear! But somehow it keeps creeping into my projects. The above card was actually made for my brother, so I did not start out the project with pink in mind, but, the MM seemed to give it just the right {pop!}

This next robot card was made for a woman so I did really go for the pink & bling. The robot makes me laugh because I think I might have gotten a little carried away with my paper piecing. I think he's got to be a thrift store shopper because you know those floral pants have to be vintage polyester! The background for this card was surprisingly easy to do with a brayer, some sponges and glossy cardstock. I am hoping to do a class on brayered backgrounds sometime before Christmas. But if you can't wait to try it out you must check out Michelle Zindorf's blog. She has pioneered this technique in card making and her cards are absolute works of art (plus she posts some really simple to follow tutorials regularly!). Oh, I almost forgot to mentions that I covered the robot, planet and comet with the Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint from the Holiday mini catalogue. It's really great stuff and gives your projects a fabulous but subtle, well... Shimmer!

And one final card for today. This one was made for my nephew's dedication. I wasn't sure what to do for him because I had used all of my classic 'baby boy' type stamps on past projects for him and wanted to try something different.
I used the stamp set Good Friend which I am almost ashamed to say that despite buying it right away when it came out and even mounting it immediately when I received it, this is the first time it has seen ink!! I really love the bird and the funky retro shapes that come with it so I'm thinking that though this has been it's first inking, it will definitely not be the last. After stamping the shapes on the background I felt the card was still missing something so I embossed the new wood grain background stamp in clear EP on the kraft and I love how it turned out!

Back, finally!!

All right, I'm back and hopefully ready to roll! I had a CRANKY teether for about a month so I got very little done...you should have seen my house, ACK!!! (actually it's better you didn't!). I am so excited because, the little brown truck stopped and dropped off my new Stampin' Up! goodies a day early and this package contains the all new My Digital Studio!!! I wanted to jump right into it the moment I had the chance, but I've decided to be a good little blogger and post something for you first. I know, I'm sweet! {goofy grin} I have been creating up a storm over the last couple of weeks to try and catch up from the recent stamping hiatus.

Here are a few of my creations. (I won't have the time to put recipes up for these but if you have any questions please don't hesitate to post me a question) This first image is of the scrapbook frame I made for my brother's birthday. I love making these frames I think it's a great way to capture a special moment and share it with someone who doesn't scrapbook themselves. I did use retired colours on this page but, felt there was no better colour than Kiwi Kiss to capture my brother's wacky, vibrant personality. What do you think of the frame? I thought it was funky but, apparently not everyone agrees because the whole line was being cleared out dirt cheap at local craft retailer!! Oh, in case you don't understand French the journaling simply says Gabby and Uncle Alex...I'm sure you guessed.

Next up is a very simple thank you card I made for my recent Stampin' VIPs, I really like this colour combo and loooooove the fact that we have the in-colours in marker form now!! Hmm, I wonder what the chances would be of SU! coming up with a 'Retro' marker pack with all the past (or at least best of) in colours? Bands do comebacks all the time why not colours eh?

This next card is a Birthday card for someone special. I finaly inked up my Jardin Botanique set, which was on my must haves list the moment I saw it. I did a few different things on this card, the ribbon is actually our white satin ribbon coloured with a Sahara sand marker, it really changes the feel of the ribbon. It makes it much less "bridal". The second thing I did was use some of my Very Vanilla Hodge Podge hardware (I tend to hoard these!). Before attaching the hardware piece I antiqued it a bit by covering it with choc. chip craft ink then buffing it off with a tissue. The elegant eggplant rickrack is found in one of our current Ribbon Originals packs, for some reason I LOVE rickrack...a touch of whimsy perhaps?
Ok now this card was a real stretch for me but I think I like the end result. My SUO bloggers group, the design divas challenged us to use buttons on a project and this is my attempt. This card is actually going to be the 'WOW' card we will be making at my October workshops. (have you booked one yet?) The biggest step out of my comfort zone on this card was to use Crushed Curry cardstock...I really hated this colour....I'm still not luvin' it but, now I see that it really gives great punch in the right combinations. The ribbon is actually our organza ribbon (white again) coloured with pumpkin pie ink and then scorched with a heat gun. Be very careful if you do this at home. It doesn't take much to have a melted mess!

My final project was a gift for my daughter's new Preschool teacher. I am going to have to search through my blog subscriptions to find out who first posted this cute project. I had originally wanted to make one of those adorable paper schoolbags with a coordinating stationary set but, I had to find something less ambitious and this hit the spot. The basic pencil shape was made by adhering a Hershey's kiss (or Hug in this case) to the end of a pack of Rolos using mini glue dots. The first pencil I made I just wrapped in the summer sun cardstock but, it seemed to be missing something so, I made another one which I scored lines on using my bone folder and paper cutter, I think it made all the difference. Two other things that I did to add realism were to add a punched pink circle with a heart stamped on it to the eraser end and to scallop the writing end with my square scallop punch. Then of course I had to eat the first one to hide the evidence {grin}. Here's the pencil:

teething hiatus...

Hi all, I am really hoping to be able to post something soon, Kaleb has been in what looks like full on teething for nearly a month now. He is normally a fairly happy, easy going baby, but I am gathering he does not have a very high pain tollerance. At the moment conscious=CRANKY! And what worked with his sis is not working with him, so if you have any teething tips I'm all ears!!

A challenge!

I have joined a group of fabulous blogging paper-crafters. Our goal is to motivate and inspire each other to keep creating and blogging! I rarely have problems with the creating side of things but I seem to struggle with some sort of pre-posting anxiety which makes posting often fall to the very bottom of my to do list, even though I really do love to share my projects. (especially when I get all of you lovely and encouraging comments!!) Hopefully my new crafty friends will encourage me to push past my posting dread and you will hear from me a little more regularly. (You can see their great blogs on my side bar under My SU! Blog List)

One thing our (soon to be named) group has started are weekly challenges. This week our challenge was to create a simple card; sticking to the basics of ink and cardstock and it had to be made in under 15 min. For me this is the very definition of challenge! I always overcomplicate my projects and they generally take me a lot longer than 15 min to make!

I have been wanting to play around with my new movers and shapers die ( the one that looks kind of weird and useless in the catalogue but is really fabulous!) So this is the card I came up with: (Sorry the first pic is over exposed, I edited it on a very dim monitor and did not realize how bright I made it)

Stamps: Circle Circus, Thoughts and Wishes (hostess level 2)

Paper: Soft Suede, Crushed Curry, Mellon Mambo, Whisper White

Ink: Same as paper + Dusty Durango & Old olive markers

Tools & Acc: Movers & shapers curly lable & modern label dies, modern label punch.

I coloured the flower in with markers directly to the rubber. I started with the lightest colour (crushed curry>dusty durango>mellon mambo) then moving darker and finally just before I stamped it I sprayed my stamp with a very fine mist of water so that the inks would blend.

Oh and for an example of my posting procrastination, I made the card Monday, edited the images Wednesday and I am finally posting today literally just hours before our challenge cut off!! {sigh} I'll do better next week!

While I am posting I have one more card to share with you. This is one of the cards I created for my next techniques class. I was going to hold it in August but with so many people on holidays I think I will hold off until september. I used the ever popular water colour roses or re-inker spread technique on this card with our new in colours Mellon Mambo and Rich Razzleberry. This technique is so much fun and deceptively easy to do. If you haven't tried it out yet and are in the Edmonton area, plan to come to my class, you'll love this technique, I promiss!

Experiencing Technical Difficulties!

Apparently my laptop (2 yrs old) and camera (3 yrs old) and our home network (items ranging from 1-12 yrs old) are hideously out-dated and are doomed for retirement! I must be a little out of touch because, I am still under the impression that if you pay hundreds and even thousands of dollars for a piece of equipment it ought to last more than 2-3yrs!! My husband, who is very tech savvy, assures me that in the world of computers this is a very acceptable life span. On the one hand I think that this is terribly unreasonable and I don't want to put another dime towards computers etc. but, on the other hand I just don't know what I would do without internet access, a computer that I can take with me and a digital camera! Weird how you can go from not even knowing something exists to not being able to live without it in a matter of years!

Ok, enough philosophising, Let's see if I will at last succeed at posting some new creations. I hope to post as many as I can while the gettin' is good"!! Once again I won't take the time to list the recipes but, if you want to know about something from any of these projects just leave a comment and I would be happy to fill in the blanks!

This is the first card I made using my new catalogue goodies and 2009 In-colors. The stamp is
one of the level 2 hostess sets in the new catalogue (Wings of Friendship). I really love all the hostess sets this time (especially the ones coming in the Holiday Mini Catalogue this September! {sshhhhh..})

AAAck! I can't believe it, I just dropped my laptop!! It literally slid right off my lap onto the floor and I could not stop it! Thank goodness it's still sort of working...in case you haven't guessed yet I am a bit of a klutz! Do you think Fisher Price is likely to start making electronics??

Ok back to the cards! I'm using 4 of the new in-colours: Rich Razzleberry, Mellon Mambo, Bermuda Bay and Soft Suede oh, make that 5 there is a teeny tiny bit of Crushed Curry on the bird. Thanks to SU!'s offering in-colour markers this year, I was able to colour directly on the stamp to get a multicoloured image. I really did not know how to use the in-colours at first they are really rich and beautiful but, also kind of intense and intimidating. What I discovered is that the colour soft suede goes really well with any of them and sort of grounds them. I love this colour, it's a great neutral and sort of reminds me of my favorite cargo pants from high school, they went with everything!

There is a lot of distressing on this card some sponging and some direct to paper ink application. The only other particular thing on this card worth noting is the corduroy button. Nope! they did not come out with them in Bermuda Bay, I just took a Kraft one and coloured it with my marker, super easy!! You can also smoosh the buttons directly into the ink pad, this should work with any darker colours.

These Next two cards make me want to laugh...or cry! Neither of them got out to their intended recipients thanks to my 3yo DD. I actually just found them a couple days ago behind our sofa when I was tearing the house apart in search for my lost wallet. The first card is a little girl dress I created based on Lauren Meader's onesie cards. I simply cut a straight line from the under arm to the bottom of the card then lightly rounded the bottom using my circle cutter. The pinafore was made of vellum that had been embossed with our polka dot BG stamp in white. The flower on the waistband was created using the Sizzix Bigz Daisy 2 die. This card was intended for the christening of a friends daughter. I wanted something really girly but not pink!

This card also did not make it out. It is one of the cards I created for Mother's day though it is my least favourite of them. ({sigh} the pics of the other ones got lost one of the times my camera decided to have a moment). I used the Reinker Spread, or Watercolour roses technique that I believe was shown at a SU! Regional meeting then spread like wild fire across the stamping world. The end result is so stunning that you wouldn't guess how fun and easy the technique is! Take a peak at a great tutorial here on Patty Bennett'ns Blog. The reason I am not as fond of this card as the others is that I dropped an ink pad on the card while I was making it so I was forced to change my design on the fly. The other ones don't have the lily, the leaves are placed differently and I have a die cut butterfly...hmm I will have to ask my mom to bring her card so I can take a pic to share.

Speaking of my Mom it was her birthday recently so I made this next card. I really had fun making this one, my mom is a fan of anything Mary Engelbrite (sp?) so I took that as my launching point. She also loves scotties since she had one when before I came along. The pedestal that the dog is on was from the Crazy for Cupcakes set. I was inspired by another stamper (which I can't recall at the moment) who had stamped animals from the Wild About You set on the same pedestal. The paper is the now retired Rockabilly Specialty paper, boy I wish I had gotten it earlier, I LOVE it!

And this framed scrapbook page was part of her gift. It did not turn out quite as I had planned but looks much better in real life than in this pic. The page is in honour of my mom's father a Québec fiddle player, who passed away this fall in his nineties. The moment I saw this violin stamp in the catalogue I knew I had to have it, but this is the first time it has seen ink! The top picture is a collage my uncle made depicting different periods in my grandpapa's life and the bottom pic is of the time my daughter met him. She loves music too so she just sat and watched him play piano awestruck.

While we are talking birthdays, I had the pleasure of doing a couple of stamping projects with my little cousin's friends at her 15th b-day party. She wanted one project to be a box that she could put her guests favours in. I decided to do a purse theme since this cousin is a real pink loving girly-girl. And so here is the purse/box in Mellon Mambo and Bermuda Bay. I adapted a template that I found on this blog. She has tons of fabulous paper purse designs it's definitely worth a look!

For the card I was inspired by the many punch art purse cards out there and the colours in the Sweet Always DSP (retired now). The girls enjoyed putting together the little purses and got really creative making their own designs. One girl added scraps of the Mellon Mambo paper from the big purse to accent her little purses and it looked fabulous!

One more Birthday card then have to go to bed! I was soooooo happy to see this stamp set, Lots of Bots, in the new catalogue. The men in my family tend to be more geeky-techie rather than sporty athletic so I know I will get a lot of use out of this set. (not to mention that my daughter loves robots since watching the film Wall-E). So this was the card I made for my cousin who is turning 17. It's not at all what I had planned on but, when I mounted my new Gallery set which I earned free last month (I love being a demo!) I had to play with it and this is what was born! I used a few recently retired colours and DSP to make the card but, I am totally addicted to kiwi kiss and how it looks with pacific point....I don't know how I'm going to give it up!! The little embellishment on the greeting was made with coated telephone wire that I got years ago from a great little recycling shop in town. It's fun stuff if you can get your hands on it and comes in every colour combo imaginable!

Well that was an über long post, apparently I felt babbly after my long absence! Well no technical glitches so far tonight (cross fingers, knock on wood and all that stuff!) so hopefully, that mean y'all will get to read this! Hope you enjoyed, more to come as always!!

I have been really busy lately making cards and gifts but have not had a chance to post them. And it looks like my son is going to be an early teether like his sister was (first tooth at 3 mos!) he's been pretty cranky lately because he seems to be working on cutting a canine....as a nursing mommy I have to say I'm not too keen on his choice of first teeth!! Since it doesn't look like things are going to let up any time soon I figured I should at least share a little eye-candy with you and hopefully I can fill in the details later. Enjoy!

This first card was made for a little cousin's 10th b-day, I LOVE making kids cards, their so much fun!!
This is the card I made for my Aunt and Uncle's 60th b-day. They both love the sea and go there every summer so their kids threw them a beach themed party.
This is the father's day card I made for my owl-loving husband, it's actually a big card at 8.5x5.5in. My husband really wanted his own copy of this photo for work so I thought I would scrap it up a bit for him. This card was made using some of my daughters art, of course I could not convince her to use any other color than purple so I had to get creative with the colour scheme to make it more masculine. This card I made for my Papa, I know it's an odd combitnation but, we always had daxies (wiener dogs) growing up and my dad has really gotten into wine making lately! Cards don't always have to make sense do they? I guess I was in a bit of an odd mood making this one for my father inlaw...I just had to use that adorable raccoon!! And finally...the reason I so desperately need a door on my craft room.... Apparently rolls of ribbon are far too tempting to a three year old!!! I was just glad to have recently removed my retiring ribbons from the bar!

Not Your Typical Cards

I generally always make 4.25x5.5 inch cards either vertical or horizontal simply because you can get 2 out of an 8.5x11 inch piece of cardstock and of course they fit the SU! envies perfectly but, every once in a while it's fun to step out and try something different. Here are a couple of my recent experiments:

This first one is called a Tri-Shutter card and it really intrigued me when I spotted a similar one on Split Coast Stampers. I searched around until I found a tutorial for it and I was pleasantly surprised to find out just how easy it was to make! (Tutorial Here) I had to adjust the measurements a little for my card as I had already made the tree on the front panel and did not want to have to cut it down. I also chose to use our great 'To the Nines" specialty paper instead of plain cardstock so I did not have to do much additional decorating.

The front image was done by brayering yellows and oranges on glossy cardstock then stamping the tree and such in chocolate chip ink. To get the moon/sun I simply made a mask by punching a circle out of a sticky note and then brayered right over it. I also chose to add a little more depth around the edges by sponging on some chocolate chip ink.

Ha! I just noticed that my daughter plunked her water glass in the shot right before I took this pic! But,I guess if I really wanted professional looking pics I would invest in some sort of a light tent or something! Anyhow, here are the deets:

This last card was loads of fun to do, I have long been an admirer of punch art but, only rarely tried it myself. Punch art is a great thing to do when you need a certain image for your card that you don't have a rubber stamp for. I needed a Bday card for my daughter's dragon loving little friend but, I didn't have an even remotely dragonish stamp. The hinged egg card was inspired by the many many hinged cards that came out on SCS around easter of this year. I created the punched dragon after looking at piles of different punched animals again on SCS. If you ever want to figure out how to make a certain object or character with punches I highly suggest doing a search of the SCS galleries for “punch art” + “animal/object desired”. There are some uber talented punch artists out there, and it's a great source for inspiration!

Wow it took me 4 days to create this post because my little fellah is teething (already!!) and I could not get more than a couple minutes at a time to work on this. I guess in the future if you see a post that only has a pic. you'll know that I had another crazy week and I will add details as I can!!

A Couple of Forgotten Cards...

I was really worried that I might not have anything to share with you this week. I finally found my camera, which has been MIA for almost a month, but was pretty upset when I discovered that the ten or so photos of recent projects were corrupted and unusable! Unfortunately all of these projects had been given away as gifts too so tracking down new photos was not going to be an easy task!

Since I could not post what I had planned to I went pouring through my old project photos and found 2 cards that I never got around to sharing (occasionally procrastination pays off!) So here they are:

This first one was really fun to make, I actually made it for my chiropractor to thank him for being such a good sport with my daughter (she freaked out and went into total hysterics when she saw a skeleton in a corner of the room). I forgot to share this project because he never did get the
card, on the way to his office Gabby's water bottle sprung a leak and completely drenched it! Oh well...it's the thought? I used the Just Jawing stamp set that I earned free during a promotion this fall. It's a really fun and trendy set. I just wish I had more chances to use it!...Hmmm... I have a couple of teen cousins with B-days coming up...It just might get inked again soon!

This next card was the first one I made when I got my Beautiful Butterflies die (I love it!!). The Butterflies are the perfect size for cards or scrapbook pages, and they layer beautifully. I pulled the colour combo directly from the Urban Garden DSP (Retiring{sigh}) and the layout was based on an old sketch challenge from SCS . I hummed and hawed for a long time about what I could use for the butterflies body and in the end I settled on pleating some satin Kiwi Kiss ribbon (using sticky strip) and adding a clear rhinestone brad for the head.

Well in style anyways, it is another baby project though! This is a little gift set I made for a friend who prefers earthy colours and more contemporary stylings.It was the first time I made a series of coordinating items to give as a gift. I really enjoyed coming up with different ways to use the same colours & style across the 3 projects, I'm sure there will be more of this in my stampin' future! The onesie card is of course based on the template created by Lauren Meader over at My Time...Creations, I find myself using this one a lot for baby cards.

This set is heavy on the 2008 in colours, it's funny when I first saw them, I was not impressed. I could not think of how I was going to get through a year with these colours. Now with only one month left for this collection I am almost panicking, what will I do without Kiwi kiss, Tangerine Tango, Pacific point or Pink Pirouette?? I'm sure I will survive, after all last year I was aghast that I would have to give up my Wild Wasabi, but I'm still alive and stampin! The up side is that I get to see the new in colours for 2009 on Monday! EEk!! I do love being a SU! demo!! Lets hope they are as fabulous as usual! Though regardless of my first impression, I am sure to fall in love with them once I see what other talented stampin' bloggers have done with them, it happens every time!

Somethin' Girly!

Yay another few minutes to myself, lets see how fast I can type this up now! Sometimes I feel like I am playing that game where you have to put all the little plastic shapes in place before the timer goes off and launches the pieces everywhere. (Concentration?) I never know how much time I have until the baby (or his big sister) needs me.

Alright now onto a project.I do have some pics of the cards and projects I made for this Mother's Day but, they'll have to wait until I can upload them. In the mean time here is yet another baby project!

The first photo is of one of the thank you cards I made for a friend. Of all the babies born lately she had the only girl so I just had to take the opportunity to pull out the pirouette pink! I made about ten of these cards, and I hope to also get a little box done up for them soon. After I took this photo I added little white buttons to the wheels on the carriage it really finishes off the card.

This second picture is of the actual card I made to welcome the new baby girl. The over the top girlyness of this one is a little out of my creative comfort zone, but a heck of a lot of fun to make! I created this card from scratch. Bassically I cut out a circle shaped card, snipped out a quarter section (making a sort of Pack-man shape) and then decorated it. The only really important detail to remember is that if you want it to stand up you need to attach wheels to the back of the card too.

Woo Hoo! This is awesome, I am still uninterrupted, let's see if I can quickly get my recipe posted before the critter stirs!

A Little Something Blue

I wanted to thank everyone who helped me celebrate the arrival of my son Kaleb by taking part in my Mystery Hostess party! The winner of the hostess benefits was Christa, one of my Stampin' VIPs who will be taking home the new Circle Scissors Plus as well as a few other goodies. Good choice, Christa, I love that tool! As you might recall I had a special on all things blue, and people definitely took advantage of it, look what met my eyes when I opened my parcel...very cool. I might have to do the colour specials again, I wonder what a box full of red or yellow would look like?

Here's a little card project for you. I mentioned in the last post that I have been making loads of baby cards,well here's the one I made for my new nephew Luke (notice the SAB DSP again, I just can't get enough of it!). Oh and the space stuff is a loving poke at the whole 'Luke' Skywalker & Star Wars thing.

It really seems like everywhere I turn there are new babies popping up! I don't think I have ever made as many baby cards as I have in the last couple of months! This cutie was made for a friend who had a baby boy only three weeks before Kaleb was born. The paper is of course from the free SAB pack, oh and the ribbon too. I really was not fond of this colour combo when I first saw it but it's just perfect for baby cards. I am almost in a colour rut because of it, I am constantly reaching for this paper! The other item I just can't get enough of on this card is the coorduroy buttons, there is something about buttons and cord that screams baby...or again maybe it's just me. Well that's enough rambling from me, I am trying to get this post up super fast while my hubby entertains the babe, and I am eating up precious potential sleep time! A Proud Big Sis!

Well I figured it was about time to share the good news, our family welcomed a new little fella on April 5th (I know he missed Will's birthday by one day!). His name is Kaleb Rowen Asher and he weighed a whopping 5lbs 15oz at birth. He's doing really well and has already gained a whole pound. My daughter, Gabrielle, absolutely loves the little guy and our only fear at the moment is that he might get smothered in kisses!

I actually have a moment to myself (and 2 free hands to type with!) because, both of the little ones fell asleep in the car on the way back from the grocery store! I'm not sure how long it will last but I am going to take the opportunity to share a recent card with you guys.

Here it is.
This was a really fun card to make. A friend of mine has twin boys who will be turning 2 in May. The boys are nust about cars and since I have no car stamps I decided to try making my own car. First I cut out a piece of paper the size of a normal card front (5.5x4.25in), folded it in half and sketched a the shape of a car on it including the bumper, hood and windshield detail. I used this as my template and cut out the car and all the details from cardstock. I did not have any brushed silver cardstock for the bumper and such so I took some basic gray cs and sponged it with silver ink. It actually worked really well. The head lights were created with build-a-brads in which I mounted circles of the SAB Delicate Dots DSP. The hood and bumper were popped up on dimentionals to give the car more depth. Here is the rest of the recipe:

Time to play a little catch up!

I'm sorry to say that the way I've been feeling for the last few months has made this blog a very low priority. Unfortunately even when I have some quiet time to blog I have such 'Mom' brain that my concentration is very fractured. Hopefully this will pass when the baby is born....a girl can wish can't she? Anyhow since I seem to have more focus today I figured I would share a few recent projects!

I have been taking a Mom & Tot Gymnastics class for the last couple months. We have a really great instructor and my daughter can't get enough of the class. It's so nice to finally have 'teachers' to give little seasonal gifts to. I love making these kinds of little themed projects and I am finally finding people to give them to!

In the first pic you will see the card I made. I might have posted a similar one before as I did make it for a valentines day workshop in feb. The difference with this one is that instead of watercolouring the elephant myself I let Gabby colour it ( apparently she was having a minimalist day!). It was nice to have her participate in making some of the card and I know the instructor appreciated it too. The pillowbox gift you see bellow was made using my SU! Bigshot and the exclusive pillowbox die. I can't believe how quickly it came together, not having to trace, cut out and score a template. I filled the pillow box with some yummy Jelly Bellies in v-day colours. See bellow for project recipes.

Great Idea for using our DSP

I was up early this morning with my daughter (she started asking to go downstairs to eat at about 5 am!) and decided check out my E-mail. I am subscribed to an awesome Crafting blog called Craft Magazine Daily. Even though this is not a strictly papercrafting publication, I find it's a fabulous source for daily inspiration and definately worth checking out!

This morning, one of the featured projects was creating custom interchangeable IPod covers:
Besides being a really great use for ones stash designer papers this article cought my attention because the artist used SU!'s scrumptious Ski Slope paper. (from the current Holiday Mini Catalog). I know that this kind of case/face plate is available for all sorts of portable electronics now days so keep your eyes open for some to fit your devices and get ready to take your stash out of the craft room!

I'm actually kicking myself because a few months ago I saw cases like this that would have fit my IPod nano at a local liquidation store for $0.60 but, I opted for the lime green aluminum case instead! Oh well, live and learn!

More Holiday Cards

Time to share some more cards with you. Today the cards are from my last Christmas card class. I focused on punch art cards in this class. The inspiration for these cards comes from all over the place.

These first two cards are what gave me the idea to focus on punch art this month. The snowman face was an ingenuous little card that I cased completely from Dawn`s Stampin Thoughts blog. Dawn has also taken this design to make fun candy bar wrappers, very cute. The white and purple card came out of my desire to try the Tag Punch Star Tutorial on SCS and not make another blue and white snow card!

This card was super quick and easy, but I think it looks pretty nice, what do you think? Here I to wanted to try this scallop edge medallion (Tutorial on SCS) and I also wanted to try making a holiday card with a non-holiday stamp-set. So I grabbed the ever elegant Baroque Motifs and 'had at'er". Oh yeah. and I am not sure if you can really see it in the picture but the center of the flower is covered in chunky glitter. This is actually a mixture of red, silver and a few other colours. It was created when my 2.5 yr old discovered how to open glitter jars...what can I say, chaos was my muse!

Okay now this card was one I was really not sure about, I loved the little punch art penguin but struggled to make it not look like a child had made it...punch art always makes me think of those animals I made as a child out of fun foam shapes (especially when you add googly eyes!). What I am calling the Snowball border on the right was inspired by some photos from our recent SU! regional here in Edmonton. I was unable to attend, but this one photo really jumped out at me, all I knew is what it looked like and that they had used the slit punch to make it. After about half an hour of trial and error I finally came up with a version I was happy with and could teach in class.

Oh, in that last card, I pulled together my penguin from a bunch of different ones on SCS. I did pretty much the same thing with this Santa face...the one thing that was definitely my doing was the sideburns though. It was bugging me on some of the other cards that Santa had a floating beard on his chin and then just the fur on his cap, I mean Santa's a fuzzy guy! I made the mustache with a normal circle punch but someone in my class had the idea of making it with the scallop punch and I must admit it was much better, this is why I love teaching classes!

I have been really busy making Christmas cards and class samples over the last few months so now I have tons to share with you, I will upload as many projects as I can in this post before my daughter's bedtime! Alright, I will start with a few of the cards I have made for in-home workshops. This first one is using the level 2 Hostess set Deer Friends. I was inspired by a number of samples I saw on SCS to make this one. I actually have not used it yet in a party as, I have designed it to use at my cousins workshop at the end of the month..shhh don't tell! Yeah well I know that's not going to work well seeing as how he is subscribed to my blog! Any how, Ryan, I hope you like it!! {Recipe}

These next 3 very different cards were made at the same home workshop. The lay our for this first one was taken from a SCS sketch challenge and the colours were inspired by the Urban Garden DSP. {Recipe}

It's no secret that I love this Sock monkey, another demonstrator on my team came up with a great swap card using the monkey and bleaching out his paler bits. I thought it was ingenious so of course I cased it! I had fun making this card, one detail that you can't really see in the photo but that adds a lot of dimension to this card is the punched vellum circles I glued on the bashful blue layer. The circles are different sizes and echo the polka dots on the monkeys gift. {Recipe}

I did think this stamp was lovely but, it was pretty low on my purchasing priority list so it was a real treat to be able to work with it!

I'm Baaaaaaaaaack!

I don't even know where to start... as many of you already know I a expecting a baby in April and I have been really ill for a couple of months. I'm afraid my limited energies had to be used to care for my daughter and try to keep my house and business afloat. As you can imagine the Blog became a really low priority! But now that I am feeling better, I have such a backlog of projects to show you I really have to get at it. So why don't we! These first pictures are of the projects from the Box-it! Bag-it! Tag-it! class I will be offering on Tuesday November 18th. I am really excited about this class because it's the first time I do so many 3-D projects in a class and we get to play with some really yummy accessories from the Holiday Mini Catalogue! This first large bag was inspired by the summer themed one we made at convention. All my colour choices were pulled from the gorgeous Ski Slope Designer series paper. This pack has such a variety of designs that I often don't recognize projects made with it! DSP is a quick and simple way to add real pizaz to your projects. This next project is based on an online tutorial I found, I will have to track it down again and link to it when I get the chance. It's called a Bag-in-a-box or a Box-in-a-bag or something like that. Bassically it's cute fun and easy so I really like it! This last box is really cool, I really do not know who to credit for it as they are popping up all over the place, apparently you can now find tutorials on how to make them too but, I figured this one out on my own. The transparent sides make it the perfect presentation for candies bath beads or other colourful stuff. (I'm sure you can find something more seasonal than my chocolate easter eggs!!)
To round out my Box-it! Bag-it! Tag-it! class we of course need tags. I will have one really fancy one to make using the Top Note Sizzix die and a bunch of simple ones. Once you have completed the main projects you are welcome to create as many of the simple punched tags as you can
before the end of class!

Overdosing on new stuff!

I just received my early copy of the Holiday Mini Catalogue and...Oh My!! I haven't even begun to absorb the new fall collection and here comes a mini to just blow my mind! Yummy Candy cane grosgrain ribbon, beautiful stamp sets, delicious (can you tell I'm hungry?) papers and {GASP}dare I say it....felt snowflakes!!! All that is barely the tip of the ice burg,and I certainly can't forget that the back half of the mini is dedicated to SU!'s new Big Shot!!!

I went to see my blog and was shocked that I never posted my earlier birthday cards for this month, especially since there are a couple I am really proud of!

The first card was made for my husbands Uncle, he always takes care of the family wiener roasts on the farm, and so I let that be my inspiration. I will really miss this stamp set, I wish I had given in and bought it a long time ago...but now it's retiring...{snif, snif} I am pretty sure this set will have a place in my private stash though!

This last card is by far may favourite and that is in part because it was such a huge challenge. I mean, what do you make for a 16 year old boy??(that he will actually like...) Well fortunately for me he likes computers and tech stuff and my Pun Fun stamp set (with the little space ship) and my small star punch just arrived! The acetate window and the general colour scheme were inspired by someone on SCS, though I'm afraid I can't remember who. i decided to use my new space ship, and to make a tilt card (the space ship tips and turns when you tilt the card). The space ship seemed kind of forlorn on its own so I created a 'vapour trail' for it using one of the flourishes from the stitched exotics set. For the numbers I covered chip board numbers with encore silver ink and then embossed them with Iridescent Ice. It gives them a fun spacey feel!

I think every family has a month or two of the year that is birthday crazy. In my house it's may, in my extended family it's July and with my friends it's September. I am uber behind on my Family cards this year because I have been so focused on making swaps etc. for convention. I have Finally finished cards 5 and 6 of 10-11needed! But I still have a little ways to go to be in the clear. It's crazy but, I love it and I simply could not imagine buying someone a card now! Here are my last couple: This first card was for my maman, she loves these bright primary colours and has fond memories of biking as a child so she loves bicycle images (I actually had to borrow the stamp from her to make the card!!)

August Christmas Card Take-Out Class-Take Two!

Well I've gotten the vibe that a lot of you are not very fond of a pink Christmas card!! While others absolutely love it! Not being a big pink fan myself, the last card in my take-out class was a bit of a stretch for me, though I did fall in love with the little pink sparkly penguin! Any how, if you are one of those people who were turned off by the pink I have good news: I am offering a blue alternative version too. So when you place your order simply tell me if you want the pink or the blue penguin! The other fun thing I realized about this card is that because of the saying (From our house to yours) you could really personalize this card and put a penguin for each member of your family! You know: Dad gets the scarf, sister gets to be glittery, mom gets eyelashes, brother...gets a hockey stick? Have fun with it!

Summer can be such a crazy time, I know it can be challenging to get to a fixed class, so why not take it to go? I will be offering a Christmas Card workshop that you can bring home and do when the time suits you best.

When do I need to have my order in for?
I will be placing an order for the kit materials on August 5th. If there is enough interest I may also place a later order.

What kind of additional supplies will I need?
Other than the stamping basics (scissors, adhessive, bone folder...) you will need a selection of inks, colouring tools, and a number of punches. For the inks I will offer recomendations for suitable alternative colours. For the punches, once you receive the reccomended supplies list simply identify the punches you do not have and I will pre-punch the necessary pieces for you. Also remember, you can order any necessary supplies at 10% off!

Can't get Enough of my Square Punches!

I have always been a fairly frugal person so the thought of spending on square punches seemed ridiculous. I thought, I can cut squares why would I want that? Then I got one free...within a week I had to have the smaller one too! I love these punches it makes it so easy to make a modern fun looking card. I would have avoided making these cards in the past because it was `fiddly`and things never looked quite right. Now that I have the 1-3/8" and 1-1/4" punches this kind of card is super easy!

Here are a couple of cards with very different looks but both using the matted square punches and some watercolouring. I featured the in colors in both cards because I know I will have to say farewell very soon!!

This last card was lots of fun to do, I just randomly stamped images from the Unfrogettable set in stazon then watercoloured them, added a touch of glitter ( a must!) and punched out 6 squares from the page. By turning the punch up side down you can slide it around your paper until you see a pleasing design and punch!

Youch! Belated Father's Day

June was a bad blogging month... It looks like I have some major catching-up to do now! It seems that as soon as stuff starts to get crazy in my life the Blog is the first thing to suffer, and I have sooooooo many projects to share! I know "Bad Blogger!". Here are a few very late postings, shall I start with Father's day? Below are the cards I made for some of the Fathers in my life...

This first card I made for my Grandpapa in Quebec. I love the tool box in this card because it's just perfect for someone like him who was always in the wood shop. I really liked the look of the screw head brads I've seen some people using but, since I don't have any I just drew an X on some plain silver brads. It's not quite as cool but, I still like the effect.

The following card was made for my husbands grandfather. I had a blast making this card, I just got the Happy Camper stamp set and....I know it's retiring...sniff, sniff... but I am not going to be parting with this set any time soon!! There is just too much you can do with it!!

This card was made for my Father in law, I just wanted to make something cheerful and modern without having a theme. I was inspired by the colours in this Jersey Shores DSP and some cards I saw on SCS. I also just got my hands on the 1-3/8 and 1-1/4 square paper punches and I can't stop usint them!!

Now this final card has got to be my favourite, and it was definitely the most time consuming! I made this card for my husband. I love how flexible the All in the Family set is you really can make a caricature of anyone!

Pretty Paper Flowers-Class

I am really excited about this months Techniques class called Pretty Paper Flowers! I will demonstrate many ways to create and give life to paper flowers and you will come away with three 'Pretty Projects'! This class has been expanded to 2 sessions and I still have room for more students on Thursday May 29 at 7pm. The cost of this class is $15 ($10 for VIP members). This beautiful square card was made using the Fabulous Flowers stamp set and a colour combo that I've fallen in love with: Perfect Plum, Old Olive and Soft Sky.

Because May is International Scrapbooking month (yes, there is such a thing!) Idecided to include a scapbook page among the projects. This cute and simple page incorporates a few different flower techniques. I thought the cheerfulness of this layout went well with a picture of my daughter and her first birthday cake.(It's about time I scrapped some of those photos, we will be celebrating her 2nd birthday this week end!!)

This final project is the one I am most proud of. I saw some lovely pictures of paper roses on the internet and I searched and searched to find out how to make them....but no luck! So, I sat down with some supplies and figured out how to make my own, now I can teach you! These flowers are time consuming but, well worth the effort. Each student will make a rose in the colour of their choice then we will attach them to a sweet little gift box.

Father's Day Class

Well, this was supposed to get posted yesterday but,the day got away on me! So here we go a day late. Today I have a couple of really fun projects to show you. These projects will be featured at my Father's Day Class on June 12th (more info to follow)

This first picture is of a family name frame, this is what the original class project was going to be. I really liked working with the All in the Family stamp set, you can easily create caricatures of you family using the various stick body parts though, a Stamp-a-ma-jig is a must for this set! I found it pretty easy to customize each character to represent my family the only thing I think they need to add is a bald head and a beard/goatee. I sort of drew a beard on my husband and I actually gave the dog longer legs because our pooch is a giant! I did not have a current family picture to place in the frame so I created a little insert with a 'T' and the definition for 'Together" on it. I used the Summer Picnic DSP to accent my frame but you could really pick any paper to match your family or home decor. I really like this project and I thought anyone would enjoy making one. Even if you are grown up, moved out but, yet to start a family , I thought it might be a fun gift for your parents featuring you and your siblings. But, alas...only my friends with their own children have shown interest....so....Thanks to our recent Extravaganza I had another idea. I`ve decided that, if you do not want to make a Family Name Frame, to invite you to decorate a shadowbox frame to match your home decor!

This is the frame I decorated, I absolutely love the Ginger Blossom Paper and so I decided to feature it. Once again I could not find a suitable photo so I created a complimentary insert instead. I am quite please with how it turned out and I can`t wait to create more of these!!

Chipboard Inspirations

This month, Stampin' Up! is offering %25 percent off chipboard products with any $40 order! I love chip board but, I find people are generally in 2 camps: either they can't get enough of the stuff or they have no idea how they would/could use it. I thought I would give some tips on how you can use chip board, and show you a few of my recent chipboard projects.

The project just above this text is a frame I made using the Ginormous Pieces chipboard pack. This is a really fun collection because it has oversized pieces that can stand alone as in the project above or be used on scrapbook pages for a major impact plus it also includes some smaller accent pieces that would fit nicely on cards.I covered the frame with DSP and punched the holes with my crop-a-dile (love that tool!) The rest of the recipe is as follows:

Stamps: Tart & Tangy

Inks: Real red (craft & classic), Old Olive, Whisper White Craft ink, bashful blue marker

Papers: real red textured cardstock, summer picnic dsp (from occasions mini Caty)

Tools & Accessories: Ginormous pieces chipboard, Crop-a-dile, real red 5/8 inch grosgrain ribbon, black gingham ribbon, silk flower from Pretties kit, scallop circle punch, 1-3/8 circle punch, Crystal Effects, Eastern Elegance Rub-ons, Tombow adhesive, glue dots.

20 ways to use Chipboard:

Colour it with markers
Colour it with classic ink by pressing it directly into the ink pad or use your brayer (best for darker colours)
Colour it with craft ink by pressing it directly into ink pad or apply with a sponge (any colour)
Coat with craft ink or Versamark and emboss with clear or coloured EP.
Cover with designer series paper by gluing chipboard to paper, cutting it out roughly then sanding edges smooth with a sanding block.
Distress by sanding, sponging or stipling.
Cover in glitter or microbeads
Stamp on it
Emboss designs on it
Doodle on it
Pierce holes and set eyelets in it
Apply rub-ons
Layer it
Create flowers, creatures and object with various pieces (like punch art)
Cut it using a craft knife
Wrap it with ribbon or twine
Place shape under a piece of cardstock and use a stylus to dry emboss the shape
Use both shapes and their negatives as stencils to create new pieces.
Use larger pieces to create frames, 3-d projects or album covers
Experiment and try your favourite paper craft technique on a new surface!

Here are a couple more projects to inspire you: the first project is a mini album using the Loonies for littles kit available this month as a fund raiser for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Canada. This lovely album was so easy to complete using the decorative papers, self-Adhesive die cuts and unique stamps that came with the kit. In fact I think the most consuming part of this project was choosing the photos to use inside!! Stampin' Up! carries 2 sizes of these mini spiral albums or journals as well as a number of other items that are just perfect for creating your own books.

The last project I will share with you today is made with one of our ChipBoard Clipboards and pieces from a Simply Scrappin' Kit. The clipboards come in 3 very different
sizes and offer a really unique way to display special photos or notes. I can't believe how quickly and easily this project came together using the elements from the Simply Scrappin' kit! I think I will definitely have to take a closer look at the other kits! Well, that's it for today take a peak back tomorrow for another fun project featuring Chipboard! Hi Daniel, You're 3 today, Happy Birthday!!! This is a picture of the birthday card that I made you but was too silly to put it in the mail on time...It's filled with lot's of love and happy birthday wishes from Will, Gabby and I. I hope you have a great day today and a yummy Bday meal with mom and dad and your brothers.

Paper: whisper white, blue bayou, pumpkin pie, soft sky.
Ink: same as ink + old olive
Tools & Acc.: Spiral punch, circle punches, pumkin pie marker, number sticker from retired simply scrappin kit.

Open House

Ack!! I almost forgot to mention that I will be having an open house Saturday April 26th between 2-5pm. Anyone in the region is welcome to join me.
